Pirates and Rockies split doubleheader - If you wanted to see some great baseball, Field 4 was the center of attention today. The Rockies brought out the big guns for game one of this in-house rivalry, finishing on top 4-2 in extra innings. Phoenix Rouse gave up two runs in the first, but buckled down and struck out the Pirates' next three batters in the second. He went on to record 10 strikeouts and showed the crowd his golden glove at the mound and second. Reliever Nicholas Nyman closed out the game with a double in the sixth inning. After six with the score tied 2 off, the Rockies pull away with the help of Isaiah Sanguillen. This well played ball game on both sides included 21 combined strikeouts, six fly-outs, 10 ground-outs, two put-outs at second, and a double play by the Pirates. After an exhilarating first game, the teams took advantage of a beautiful day and made up a rainout with an impromptu doubleheader. The Pirates came out on top 12-10 in the bottom half. Another well played game by both ball clubs came down to a battle of walks (seven given up by the Pirates; 13 surrendered by the Rockies). The Pirates had 12 hits, while the Rockies recorded 11.

Rockies top Urban Impact I, 20-13 - Urban Impact won the walk battle at MLK Field, only giving up 18 walks while the Rockies' JT Shannon and Phoenix Rouse gave 19 batters a free pass combined. This pitching duo made up for the elusive strike zone by putting their bats to work in the third. Shannon started the rally with an inside-the-park grand slam, and Rouse followed with a stand-up triple to go 3-for-3 on the night. Terry Murphy, Nicholas Nyman, Kateem Ware, and Andrew Schutz made sure their pitchers were not the only ones recording RBIs, each hitting singles.
