Last updated 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 This website is the online home of the Cardinals, Pirates, Rangers, and Rockies, Brighton Heights Athletic Association's teams for 9 and 10-year-olds. In this division, players get their first taste of player-pitched play. These teams play on Field 4. Back to BHAA Main Website Pirates Seize Playoff Treasure! ![]() Brandon Notaro of the Pirates cranks a triple to help his team seal up the junior little league championship on June 27. Destiny, Cinderella Collide in Junior Championship The junior little league Pirates carried the best record through the regular season and went undefeated in the playoffs. Not many onlookers were surprised to see them on the championship ticket. It was pretty much a matter of who they would play in the championship game, not if they would play. No one would have suspected it would be the Cardinals, winless in the regular season and nearly deemed an afterthought in these playoffs. But the Cards put together the most romantic Cinderella story in North Pittsburgh Baseball history by dropping a playoff game to Brightwood Black but winning an unmatched five games to survive the losers bracket and cement a berth in the championship. Riding strong pitching by PJ Winters and Matthew Miller and new-found offense led by Miles Fortner, they surprised the likes of Urban Impact, the Rangers, Perry, and the Rockies. And just moments before they took the field to battle the Pirates on June 27, they finished off a competitive Brightwood Gray team in the conclusion of a June 26 game that was suspended by rain. In all, they played seven games in 12 days, a hearty undertaking for 9- and 10-year-old boys. But the romance ended there. The Pirates did not take the Cards lightly as perhaps their other opponents had through the playoff rush. They came out and played their brand of baseball with a high-octane offense powered by Brandon Notaro, Jordan Rhodes, and Billy Sinagra. JT Hirschfield stood tall on the mound, stifling the Cards' offense. Regardless of the outcome, the Cards went home proud of how far they'd come and all the odds they had defied since the playoffs began on June 16. The Pirates ended their season the way it began, by dominating their opponents and bringing the junior little league crown back to Brighton Heights for the second consecutive year with a 16-3 victory. Congratulations to the Pirates, the Cardinals, and all of BHAA's junior little leaguers on a season well-played. |

How Does the Season Work? BHAA’s teams play in North Pittsburgh Baseball Association with teams from Brightwood, Perry, Troy Hill, and Urban Impact Foundation. Most games are played at the John Merry field complex, but teams also travel to Young, Garvin, Cowley, and Martin Luther King fields throughout the season (your coach will provide directions). This age bracket is comprised of 10 teams overall, including four from Brighton Heights. All teams qualify for the randomly-drawn double-elimination playoffs. |
